Old-World Recipedia FAQ'S

Old-World Recipedia - Your Digital Recipe File

Just The FAQ’S:

Q.- Is this spy-ware? My anti-virus seems to think so. It pops up a screen asking if I want to allow communication with another server.

A. No. OWR is not spy-ware. There is a built-in communications ticker tape that scrolls across the bottom of the pages in Old-World Recipedia (OWR). If you do not see it, it is probably due to the settings on your anti-virus. Because OWR will be trying to communicate with our server, the anti-virus system may think that it is spyware, and will give you nag screens.

We assure you though, it is not spy-ware. In fact, it is more like spy-ware in reverse (with our permission, of course). The system checks our server for updates to the download page, such as announcements for expanded version releases.

This would normally not be an issue, except we have some server changes coming up with the forthcoming website which will change where the download page is located.

If you do not see the ticker tape, and knowing you will want to stay informed of future releases, here are a couple things you can try:

1. You can manually check the update (download) page by clicking on the #1 button on the right side of OWR.

2. Add the domains www.letsplayhistory.org and www.davefranzwa.com to your anti-virus list of acceptable domains. There is no guarantee that will work, but it is worth a try.

3. You can sign up for our Old-World Recipedia updates on the current download page. So long as your email address remains valid, you will receive updates by email. We will use that list only to offer OWR updates.

4. Above all, choose to be patient and thankful that your anti-virus system is doing its job, and simply click “accept” if it throws up nag screen about the software trying to connect with an outside server.
